We have 2 courses for complete beginners depending on your current level of fitness and your personal goals.
This award winning course will ensure you master technique and become a Nordic walker for life - it covers the following:
The fundamentals of Nordic Walking technique. Gaining forward propulsion from the poles by engaging the correct upper body muscles, understanding correct gait and co-ordination.
Mastering handgrip and use of the pole straps in order to develop technique. Adapting the body position and pole angles for walking up and down hills.
Adding more speed through improved technique, understanding how your body reacts to exercise and learning how to stay within your comfort zone.
Improving posture and understanding how to use technique, distance, speed and terrain to constantly ensure you get the most out of your Nordic Walking!
Nordic Walking is a fantastic way to cross train for running, skiing and other sports. If you are active, body aware and confident that you can cover at least 5 miles during an intensive technique tuition session – this is the one for you.
Your Instructor will take you through to NWUK gear three in a one and half to two hour induction session. This will allow you to experience propulsion and understand the benefits that can be gained from Nordic Walking regularly.
You will be able to join in regular sessions if your Instructor is confident you can master the basic ‘gears’, co-ordination and propulsion. You will be able to perfect your technique ‘on the go’ in order to master gear 4 and more intensive drills like running, bounding, leaping and skipping with poles.
You may also wish to take the advanced technique course at a later stage.
Nordic walked for years but never received structured tuition from a NWUK qualified Instructor?
If you do not feel that you need to attend a tuition course, come along for a 2 hour session in which the Instructor will ask you to demonstrate your technique and work with you to ensure that you understand the current NWUK teaching methods and terminology.
Note:- If the Instructor feels you require formalised tuition he/she will notify you within the first 30 minutes and advise you to attend either the Learn to Nordic Walk or Fast Track course.
If you feel you would like to work on your fitness levels, improve mobility, balance and flexibility before embarking or joining a Nordic Walking group – a gentle wellbeing class is a great way to get your body moving without the worry that you may not be fit or fast enough to keep up with others.
These sessions incorporate a gentle walk with poles but do not venture too far from the start point.
